Run your fingers near a Mikoto bloom and you’ll catch it immediately — that layered Damask-and-fruit fragrance drifting from cupped, peachy-apricot flowers that look almost too considered to be real. Developed in Japan as a wedding and cutting rose, Mikoto (*Rosa* ‘Mikoto’) produces 4-inch high-cupped blooms with long, graceful outer petals framing a tightly clustered center — a structure reminiscent of Asteraceae flowers, finished with a distinctive green pistil. It repeats from spring through fall, and the blooms hold exceptionally well in the vase.
Plant yours in full sun with frequent watering and top-dress with rabbit or composted chicken or horse manure each spring and fall. Hardy in zones 5–10, this shrub reaches about 40 inches tall. Pollinators — bees, butterflies, ladybugs — will find it naturally. Non-toxic, non-invasive, and self-fertile.
Your plant arrives 10–29 inches tall, 2–3 years old, already bloomed, and comes with soil. A garden rose worth growing for keeps.
