Deeply cupped, globular blooms that open into densely packed rosettes — closer to a peony than to a modern rose. Soft blush pink at the centre paling to cream and pearl at the outer petals, occasionally with a faint lilac cast in the heart. Petal counts are high, generally 70 to 100, which gives the flower its weight and its old-world shape. Blooms come in trusses rather than singly, so an established plant carries several open flowers at once and repeats in strong flushes from late spring through early autumn. The fragrance is the reason the variety exists: rich and unmistakably fruity, sweet rose over apple, lemon and a raspberry note underneath. It carries in still air and holds indoors, which makes it one of the better cutting roses of its type. Compact, bushy and well-branched, generally 3 to 4 feet, taller in warm climates. Small enough for a border or a large container. Health is exceptional. Bred under a no-spray programme, it holds up against blackspot and mildew in conditions that defeat most fragrant roses, including humid summers and hard winters. Fragrance and disease resistance rarely come together like this. Full sun, well-drained soil. Grown on its own roots. Stock is managed by the seller and opens when plants are ready to leave the nursery.
