📦 Shipping schedulePeonies ship fall only, September through November, while fully dormant and bare root — this is the only window we ship. Fall planting lets roots establish before winter for strong spring bloom. Local pickup is available upon request. Your cart and order confirmation will identify the shipping schedule for each item. Ready-to-ship and seasonal-shipping items may be split into separate orders.
🌱 Live plant noticePlants are living, perishable goods and may arrive dormant or experience normal transit stress — leaf drop, yellowing, temporary wilting, cosmetic damage, or soil displacement. These conditions do not necessarily mean a plant is dead.
📄 All sales finalAll sales are final except where a seller expressly states otherwise in the individual listing, a verified dead-on-arrival claim qualifies under the Live Plant Policy, or a refund is required by applicable law.
💳 Refund administrative chargeRefunds are issued less a non-refundable administrative charge of 3.5% + $0.80 on the original transaction. This covers payment processing and tax calculation fees retained by our providers, plus the administrative cost of processing the refund. Refunds required by law, and verified dead-on-arrival claims under the Live Plant Policy, are refunded in full.

If you’ve ever wanted a garden centerpiece that outlives you by decades, “Sapphire Towers” tree peony (‘Lan Yu San Tai’) is worth your full attention. Unlike common herbaceous peonies that disappear underground each winter, this rare Chinese shrub keeps its woody structure year-round — reaching 5–6 feet tall and wide at maturity, with dinner-plate blooms stretching 6–8 inches across in late spring.

You’ll receive a 2–3 year old bareroot plant, already bloomed, currently 10–29 inches. Expect slow, steady growth and flowers every May through June with a light-to-medium fragrance.

Plant in partial shade — afternoon protection is essential. Tree peonies prefer dry conditions; overwatering is the most common misstep. Let soil dry 4–6 inches deep before watering deeply at the roots. Avoid automatic sprinklers and wetting foliage to prevent botrytis fungal disease. Feed with composted manure in spring and fall.

Hardy in zones 4–9, drought-tolerant once established, non-toxic, and genuinely rare. This is a hundred-year plant — give it a good home.

🍂 Shipping & planting window

Peonies ship in fall (September–November) when fully dormant and bare root.

Fall planting gives roots a full season to establish in warm soil before winter. Cold stratification triggers strong, healthy spring growth and reliable bloom production. Spring-shipped peonies experience root damage during active growth, transplant shock during their bloom cycle, and often lose an entire growing season.
