This one’s outside Phytu’s usual plant-and-garden lane, but Tommy deserves a proper introduction.
Meet Tommy, a bantam cross of two wonderfully distinct breeds — the Frizzle, known for its soft, curled feathers that fan outward like a living bouquet, and the Turken (sometimes called a Naked Neck), a hardy, heat-tolerant bird with a distinctively bare neck and calm, confident temperament. Together, they’ve produced a rooster with real personality.
Tommy is actively flock-protective, which means he takes his job seriously — patrolling, alerting, and keeping order the way a good cockerel should. He crows reliably at dawn, so if you’re setting up a small backyard flock or homestead, he’ll keep you on schedule. Bantam roosters are well-suited to smaller flocks and compact spaces.
Tommy is free to a good home. Local pickup only — his current caretaker Cathy is available to meet in Sammamish, WA. If you’re building a backyard flock in the greater Seattle area, Tommy might be exactly who your hens have been waiting for.
