Watch ‘Blue Moonstone’ shift from soft lavender to creamy blush as each bloom matures — this color-changing Japanese garden rose (*Rosa* ‘Blue Moonstone’) is one of those plants you find yourself checking on each morning just to see what she’s doing.
She’s already 2–3 years old when she arrives, which means she’s bloomed before and knows what she’s doing. Plant her in full sun and water frequently to keep her happy through her long spring-to-fall blooming season. She’ll reach 9–24″ and repeat-flowers reliably, making her a strong choice for cottage gardens, container plantings, or a sheltered Pacific Northwest bed. Hardy in zones 5–11, she handles a wide range of climates with ease.
Feed her rabbit or composted chicken or horse manure each spring and fall, and let the bees, butterflies, and lacewings do the rest — she’s self-fertile but loves the company. Note she does have thorns, and she’s non-toxic.
A garden rose that earns its place and then some.
