Imagine bending into your garden on a June morning and catching the first blush of those layered, amber-gold blooms opening in the early light. ‘Singing in the Rain’ (an Itoh intersectional peony) is the rare peony that earns a permanent spot in your border and your cutting vase season after season.

Itoh peonies bridge the best of both worlds — the voluptuous flowers of tree peonies paired with the cold-hardiness and tidy, mounding habit of herbaceous types. Sturdy stems hold blooms upright without staking, and the deeply cut foliage stays attractive long after flowering. It reaches 24–36 inches tall and 30–48 inches wide, fitting beautifully into mixed perennial beds and cottage gardens.

Give it full sun to part sun, rich well-drained soil, and consistent moisture during active growth. Hardy in USDA Zones 3–8. Cut stems to the ground after hard frost.

Ships dormant and bare root in fall — the ideal planting window for strong establishment and reliable blooming. Local pickup available year-round in Bellevue, WA.

🍂 Shipping & planting window

Peonies ship in fall (September–November) when fully dormant and bare root. This is the only window we ship.

Fall planting gives roots a full season to establish in warm soil before winter. Cold stratification triggers strong, healthy spring growth and reliable bloom production. Spring-shipped peonies experience root damage during active growth, transplant shock during their bloom cycle, and often lose an entire growing season.

📍 Local pickup available year-round in Bellevue, WA.
