The sword-like foliage stands clean and upright all season, giving you structure even when the blooms have passed.

Plant rhizomes in full sun and very well-drained soil, setting the top of each rhizome just at or barely below the soil surface — buried too deep, they’ll sulk. Once established, Elainealope handles heat and drought with ease, making it a reliable choice for low-maintenance perennial gardens across USDA Zones 3–9. Remove spent bloom stalks after flowering, and you may be rewarded with a second flush of color in late summer to early fall.

Growing 24–36 inches tall and 18–24 inches wide, this is a classic bearded iris for Pacific Northwest gardens, cottage borders, and cutting gardens alike.
