There’s something quietly theatrical about watching a Butterfly Kiss Tree Peony open its blooms for the first time — petals the color of pale silk, each one marked with deep magenta brushstrokes at the base that seem almost painted by hand.
This Rockii Tree Peony arrives as a dormant bareroot plant, two to three years old with two to three branches, typically 10–25 inches tall at shipping. Come spring, expect it to reach around three feet, eventually maturing into a long-lived woody shrub that returns reliably each year. Flowers reach an impressive 20 cm (nearly 8 inches) across. Hardy in USDA zones 4–9, it handles cold beautifully — just mulch lightly in your coldest months and keep it out of waterlogged soil. Give it partial shade, moderate and even moisture during establishment, and fertile, well-drained soil with a neutral to slightly alkaline pH.
Bareroot peonies ship September through November when fully dormant — the planting window that sets roots up for their strongest possible spring. Local pickup available upon request.
🍂 Shipping & planting window
Peonies ship in fall (September–November) when fully dormant and bare root.
Fall planting gives roots a full season to establish in warm soil before winter. Cold stratification triggers strong, healthy spring growth and reliable bloom production. Spring-shipped peonies experience root damage during active growth, transplant shock during their bloom cycle, and often lose an entire growing season.
