There’s something quietly theatrical about the moment a Rockii tree peony blooms — and Crimson Orb (Lan Xiu Qiu) delivers it fully. Deep, jewel-toned crimson petals unfurl around a crown of golden stamens, each flower carrying the characteristic dark flares at the base that make Rockii hybrids so sought after by serious collectors.
You’ll receive a dormant bareroot plant, 2–3 years old with 2–3 branches, shipped at 10–25 inches tall. Give it a full season and it reaches around 3 feet. Plant in fertile, well-drained soil with neutral to slightly alkaline pH, in a spot with partial shade and good winter drainage — soggy roots are the one thing this otherwise tough plant won’t forgive. In colder gardens, a light layer of mulch after planting is all the extra care it needs. Hardy through zones 4–9.
Crimson Orb ships fall only, bareroot and dormant, so roots settle into warm soil before winter triggers the cold stratification that drives reliable spring blooms. Local pickup available upon request.
🍂 Shipping & planting window
Peonies ship in fall (September–November) when fully dormant and bare root.
Fall planting gives roots a full season to establish in warm soil before winter. Cold stratification triggers strong, healthy spring growth and reliable bloom production. Spring-shipped peonies experience root damage during active growth, transplant shock during their bloom cycle, and often lose an entire growing season.
