Odysseia Rose (Japanese Crimson Odyssey Rose) Crafted by Japan’s Takumi Kimura in 2013 (Japanese オデュッセイア), Odysseia is a dramatic, award-worthy shrub rose that delivers a journey of color—from black-tipped buds to royal crimson blooms that fade to rich purple—paired with an intense, luxurious damask fragrance, ideal for statement garden beds, romantic cut flower arrangements, or scenting outdoor seating areas, perfect for gardeners who crave bold color shifts and powerful floral perfume. Standing at 150 centimeters tall, it forms a bushy, upright habit with abundant dark green foliage that makes the blooms pop. The 8-centimeter flowers are a visual odyssey: in spring and late autumn, buds emerge almost black before unfurling into stunning, translucent royal crimson blooms with a glossy sheen. As they mature, they deepen to velvety purple, while in hot summer weather, the color softens to a warm crimson, losing some purple intensity. The blooms appear in generous clusters, covering the bush in flushes from spring to fall, and the thick petals hold their shape well through light rain. The star is the intense damask fragrance—rich, spicy, and long-lasting—that fills gardens and vases alike, turning any space into a sensory haven. Thriving in full sun and well-drained soil, it’s a low-fuss performer with excellent disease resistance, heat tolerance, and easy pruning. Deadhead spent blooms to boost repeat flowering; light spring pruning keeps the bush compact and productive. Whether planted as a focal point, in mixed borders, or cut for indoor displays, Odysseia embodies Takumi Kimura’s mastery of blending dramatic color changes, powerful scent, and garden-friendly resilience—an unforgettable Japanese rose journey.
