Deeply cupped, heavily ruffled blooms in shell pink washed with apricot, opening from large ovoid buds to around five inches across. Petal counts run high — most sources put them in the 66 to 71 range, higher on established plants — packed tightly enough to hold an old-fashioned form with a button eye at the centre. The colour is temperature-dependent. In cool weather the blooms come warm peach and apricot; through summer heat they lighten toward blush and, in hot climates, close to cream. The same plant gives noticeably different flowers in June and September. The fragrance is the reason most people grow it: strong for a modern rose, sweet and distinctly fruity with a citrus edge. It carries across a garden and holds in the vase. Upright and bushy on strong canes that carry the weight of the blooms without nodding. Height varies a great deal by climate — 3 to 4 feet in cooler gardens, commonly 5 to 6 feet, and taller still in hot regions. Width stays modest at 2 to 3 feet. Glossy dark green foliage, good disease resistance, good rain tolerance. Vase life around 4 to 6 days. Full sun, well-drained soil. Grown on its own roots. Stock is managed by the seller and opens when plants are ready to leave the nursery.
