There’s something quietly remarkable about a breed that does nearly everything well. The Bielefelder is a large, dual-purpose German breed known for its calm, personable temperament — the kind of chicken that practically walks into your arms. Hens lay reliably in rich brown, and their auto-sexing trait means males and females are visually distinct at hatch, saving you guesswork from day one.
Available February through October through our hatchery partner, Bielefelders ship via USPS Priority Mail (typically 2–3 business days), with limited regional door-to-door delivery in parts of the Midwest. Order minimums vary by season: 25 chicks January–March, 15 in April, and 6 May–September. Webster City hatchery pickup minimum is 6.
Before your chicks arrive, have your brooder fully set up and warmed. Report any live-arrival or livability concerns by phone within 48 hours. Hatch and ship dates may shift for weather or safe-shipping conditions, and all live-animal sales are final once fulfillment is booked.
