There’s something genuinely exciting about opening a brooder box to find a French Black Copper Marans chick — compact, curious, and already carrying the genetics behind some of the darkest, richest brown eggs you’ll ever collect. These rare, calm-natured birds make a beautiful addition to backyard flocks, homesteads, and breeding programs, and their chocolate-colored eggs are as striking in a nest box as they are on a kitchen counter.

These healthy, hatchery-sourced chicks are available February through early July. Order minimums vary by month: 25 chicks January–March, 15 in April, and 6 May–September (Webster City hatchery pickup minimum is 6). Birds ship via USPS Priority Mail or Priority Express (typically 2–3 business days), with limited regional door-to-door delivery in parts of the Midwest. Different poultry types ship separately and must each meet their own minimums. Hatch and ship dates may shift for weather or safe-shipping conditions.
