A perennial coastal brassica with blanched spring shoots, blue-grey leaves and roots that hold shifting ground together.
Sea kale is a long-lived perennial from shingle beaches. Grow in sandy or well-drained soil; blanch the spring shoots under a pot for the classic tender crop, and use the young leaves and flower buds too. Once established it needs almost nothing and helps hold loose soil in place.
