There’s something quietly theatrical about a peony that blooms in near-white with petals that seem to catch moonlight — and Moonlit Shadow (Tian Shan Xue Lian) delivers exactly that. This Rockii tree peony arrives as a dormant bareroot plant, 2–3 years old with 2–3 established branches, ready to root deeply into your garden before winter sets in.
Plant it where it receives partial shade and give it fertile, well-drained soil with a neutral to slightly alkaline pH. Water moderately during establishment — evenly moist, never soggy. In colder parts of its range (USDA zones 4–9), a light layer of mulch protects the crown without smothering it. Come spring, expect plants to reach around 3 feet tall, crowned with flowers measuring nearly 7 inches across.
Rockii tree peonies are among the hardiest and longest-lived of their kind, often thriving for decades with minimal intervention.
Plants ship dormant bareroot in fall (September–November) — the only shipping window we offer.
🍂 Shipping & planting window
Peonies ship in fall (September–November) when fully dormant and bare root.
Fall planting gives roots a full season to establish in warm soil before winter. Cold stratification triggers strong, healthy spring growth and reliable bloom production. Spring-shipped peonies experience root damage during active growth, transplant shock during their bloom cycle, and often lose an entire growing season.
