There’s something quietly magnificent about a tree peony that has been cultivated for centuries — and Crimson of Golden City (Jin Cheng Hong) carries that legacy in every unfurling petal. Come spring, this Rockii tree peony opens blooms reaching 6.3 inches across in deep, saturate crimson, the kind of color that stops you mid-step on a garden path.
You’ll receive a dormant bareroot plant, 2–3 years old with 2–3 established branches, shipped 10–25 inches tall. Planted in fall, it channels energy into root development all winter, arriving at spring with genuine momentum — reaching roughly 3 feet tall in its first growing season.
Plant in partial shade with fertile, well-drained soil on the neutral to slightly alkaline side. Water moderately, keeping soil evenly moist during establishment but never waterlogged. Hardy in USDA zones 4–9; a light mulch protects roots in colder climates.
Peonies ship dormant and bareroot in fall (September–November) — the only window we offer, because it’s simply the right time. Local pickup available upon request.
🍂 Shipping & planting window
Peonies ship in fall (September–November) when fully dormant and bare root.
Fall planting gives roots a full season to establish in warm soil before winter. Cold stratification triggers strong, healthy spring growth and reliable bloom production. Spring-shipped peonies experience root damage during active growth, transplant shock during their bloom cycle, and often lose an entire growing season.
