Because garden roses are harvested in a more closed stage for safe transit, yours will likely arrive as tight, cupped blooms — then gradually unfurl into something spectacular. On arrival, trim one inch from each stem, remove any foliage below the water line, and place in a clean vase with cool fresh water and flower food. Keep the cardboard support in place during the first 24–48 hours of hydration in a cool room. Avoid heat, direct sun, drafts, and ripening fruit.
