You’ve never seen a peony quite like this one. “Peace & Prosperity” (Tai Ping Sheng Shi) opens flowers up to 8–10 inches across in shifting multicolor blooms — silky, lightly fragrant petals that unfurl in April through May like something out of a classical Chinese garden painting.
Unlike herbaceous peonies that disappear each winter, this is a true tree peony (woody stems persist year-round, eventually reaching 6–8 feet tall and 5 feet wide). Plant it once and it can outlive you — tree peonies are known to thrive for a century or more. Ships as a 2–3 year old bareroot plant at 10–29 inches, already bloomed.
Give it morning sun with afternoon shade — direct afternoon sun scorches the leaves. Water deeply but infrequently; let the soil dry 4–6 inches below the surface before watering again. Amend with composted manure in spring and fall. Hardy from -45°F to 113°F (Zone 4–9). Plant the graft union at least 4 inches below soil level.
This is a rare, long-lived garden centerpiece worth every bit of patience it asks for.
🍂 Shipping & planting window
Peonies ship in fall (September–November) when fully dormant and bare root. This is the only window we ship.
Fall planting gives roots a full season to establish in warm soil before winter. Cold stratification triggers strong, healthy spring growth and reliable bloom production. Spring-shipped peonies experience root damage during active growth, transplant shock during their bloom cycle, and often lose an entire growing season.
