There’s something quietly theatrical about a flower that blooms in deep, inky tones — and Nocturne Swan (Hei Tian E) delivers exactly that. This Rockii tree peony (*Paeonia rockii*) opens into wide, dramatic blooms roughly 6 inches across, with petals in deep burgundy-black that seem to absorb the early summer light rather than reflect it.
You’ll receive a 2–3 year old dormant bareroot plant with 2–3 established branches, typically 10–25 inches tall at shipping. Come spring, expect it to reach around 3 feet. Plant in fertile, well-drained soil with a neutral to slightly alkaline pH, in a spot with partial shade — protection from harsh afternoon sun keeps those dark petals richest. Water moderately during establishment, keeping soil evenly moist but never waterlogged, especially through winter. Hardy in USDA zones 4–9; a light mulch in colder climates is all it needs.
Ships dormant and bareroot each fall — the ideal window for strong root establishment before spring bloom. Local pickup available upon request.
🍂 Shipping & planting window
Peonies ship in fall (September–November) when fully dormant and bare root.
Fall planting gives roots a full season to establish in warm soil before winter. Cold stratification triggers strong, healthy spring growth and reliable bloom production. Spring-shipped peonies experience root damage during active growth, transplant shock during their bloom cycle, and often lose an entire growing season.
This listing is for 50 plants at $55 per plant. A minimum of 100 LY Nursery tree peony plants is required per order. Shipping is included. Ships directly from the grower farm in China.
