Marge Elderberry is a vigorous, heavy-producing elderberry variety known for larger fruit, strong growth, and reliable performance in warmer summer regions where some other European elderberries struggle. It is often grown by people who want the larger berry size associated with European elderberries but with better adaptability in a wider range of U.S. growing conditions. The plant also offers ornamental appeal with broad clusters of white flowers followed by dark berries later in the season.

This variety has an upright, vigorous growth habit and is often less suckering than wild or standard American elderberries. Mature plants commonly reach about 6 to 10 feet tall and 4 to 6 feet wide, depending on pruning and growing conditions. Marge is valued for strong yields, larger berries, and a sturdy plant structure that makes it attractive for backyard growers and small-scale fruit production.

Marge Elderberry typically blooms on older wood and fruits later in the season, usually from late summer into early fall depending on the region. It is often described as partially self-fertile to self-pollinating, but planting another elderberry nearby can still help improve pollination and increase overall fruit production. For best results, grow it in full sun with moist, well-drained soil and prune carefully so older fruiting wood is not removed too aggressively.
