Mei Gui Xiang — “rose fragrance” — is exactly what you can expect when this Rockii tree peony opens its massive blooms each spring: petals stretching nearly seven inches across, with a scent that stops you mid-step.
This bareroot plant arrives dormant in fall, two to three years old with two to three established branches. Fall planting is intentional — warm soil encourages root development before winter, and cold stratification sets the stage for reliable spring blooms. By its first growing season with you, expect plants to reach around three feet.
Plant in partial shade with fertile, well-drained soil on the neutral to slightly alkaline side. Water moderately during establishment, keeping soil evenly moist but never waterlogged. Hardy in USDA zones 4–9, it appreciates a light layer of mulch in colder winters.
