There’s something quietly breathtaking about a peony that stops you mid-step — and Emerald Butterfly (Cui Die Xi Yu) does exactly that. One of the most sought-after Rockii tree peonies, its large semi-double blooms — measuring an impressive 18 cm across — open white with deep magenta flares at the base, the kind of contrast that feels almost painted by hand.
You’ll receive a dormant bareroot plant, 2–3 years old with 2–3 established branches, shipped in fall when the plant is fully rested and ready to root. Fall planting is intentional: warm soil encourages root development before winter sets in, and cold stratification triggers strong, reliable spring blooms. By the following season, expect plants to reach around 3 feet tall.
Plant in partial shade with fertile, well-drained soil — neutral to slightly alkaline — and water moderately during establishment, keeping soil evenly moist but never soggy. Hardy in USDA zones 4–9; mulch lightly in colder climates and avoid waterlogged conditions in winter.
Local pickup available upon request.
🍂 Shipping & planting window
Peonies ship in fall (September–November) when fully dormant and bare root.
Fall planting gives roots a full season to establish in warm soil before winter. Cold stratification triggers strong, healthy spring growth and reliable bloom production. Spring-shipped peonies experience root damage during active growth, transplant shock during their bloom cycle, and often lose an entire growing season.
