Pseudosasa japonica

Arrow bamboo. Broad leaves, upright canes, tolerates deep shade and salt wind better than most. Historically used for arrow shafts.

Running bamboo. This species spreads by underground rhizomes and will travel beyond where you plant it, including under a fence into a neighbour’s garden. Plan on a 60 mil HDPE rhizome barrier, or a large container, before it goes in the ground. We sell it because it screens faster and taller than anything else; we will not pretend it stays put.

Mature height: 12-18 ft. Habit: Running. Grown in the Pacific Northwest by Cascade Gardens.
