“Pretty Lady” (Hong Fen Jia Ren) is a large-flowered tree peony from China, producing lightly fragrant blooms 8–10 inches across in soft pink tones. Unlike herbaceous peonies that disappear each winter, this woody shrub keeps its structure year-round — you’ll never accidentally step on it — and eventually reaches 5–6 feet tall and wide. Yours arrives as a 2–3 year old bare-root plant, already bloomed, ready to establish.

Give it morning light and afternoon shade; full sun will scorch the foliage. Water deeply but infrequently — soggy roots are the primary cause of failure, so check moisture 4–6 inches below the surface before reaching for the hose. Hardy in zones 4–9, drought-tolerant once established, and naturally welcomed by bees and butterflies.

Fertilize with composted manure each spring and fall. One plant, a lifetime of blooms.

🍂 Shipping & planting window

Peonies ship in fall (September–November) when fully dormant and bare root.

Fall planting gives roots a full season to establish in warm soil before winter. Cold stratification triggers strong, healthy spring growth and reliable bloom production. Spring-shipped peonies experience root damage during active growth, transplant shock during their bloom cycle, and often lose an entire growing season.
