There’s something quietly dramatic about a flower that blooms in deep violet-purple clouds before its leaves fully unfurl — and that’s exactly what Midnight Cloud (Mo Yun) brings to your garden each spring.
This Rockii tree peony arrives as a dormant bareroot plant, 2–3 years old with 2–3 established branches. Shipped at 10–25 inches, it settles into its first winter with purpose, sending roots deep while the soil is still warm. By spring, expect lush new growth reaching around 3 feet tall.
Rockii tree peonies are among the hardiest you can grow — thriving in USDA zones 4–9 with very little fuss. Give it partial shade, fertile well-drained soil with neutral to slightly alkaline pH, and moderate, consistent moisture during establishment. Avoid waterlogged conditions in winter. A light mulch in colder climates is all the extra care it needs.
Midnight Cloud ships dormant in fall (September–November) — the only window we offer, and the right one. Fall planting gives roots a full season to anchor before spring bloom.

🍂 Shipping & planting window
Peonies ship in fall (September–November) when fully dormant and bare root.
Fall planting gives roots a full season to establish in warm soil before winter. Cold stratification triggers strong, healthy spring growth and reliable bloom production. Spring-shipped peonies experience root damage during active growth, transplant shock during their bloom cycle, and often lose an entire growing season.
