Chusquea culeou

Chilean bamboo with solid, not hollow, canes and dense whorls of short branches at every node. A bottlebrush silhouette unlike any other hardy bamboo.

Clumping bamboo. Expands slowly outward from the crown rather than running. No barrier needed. It widens a few inches a year, so leave room and you can otherwise forget about it.

Mature height: 14-18 ft. Habit: Clumping. Grown in the Pacific Northwest by Cascade Gardens.
