Quiet and composed from their first days, Black Langshan chicks carry themselves with an unhurried dignity that makes them a pleasure to raise. These tall, elegantly feathered birds are a rare heritage breed worth knowing — their calm, watchful temperament means less flock stress and easier handling, even for newer backyard keepers. Expect rich brown eggs once they come into lay.
Available February through early July. Order minimums vary by season: 25 chicks January–March, 15 in April, 6 in May–September; Webster City hatchery pickup minimum is 6. Live birds ship via USPS Priority Mail or Priority Express (typically 2–3 business days), with limited regional door-to-door delivery in parts of the Midwest. Different poultry types ship separately and must each meet their own minimum.
Have your brooder fully set up before arrival. Report any live-arrival or livability concerns by phone within 48 hours. Changes and cancellations must be made by 12:00 PM Central the Friday before scheduled delivery. All live-animal sales are final once fulfillment is booked.
