Auslight is one of the earlier English shrub roses, introduced in 1986 and still valued for the sheer size and quality of its blooms. Flowers are large, fully double and neatly cupped, opening from deeper pink to a soft porcelain pink that pales further as the bloom matures. The fragrance is strong and classically old rose. The main flush comes in late spring and early summer, with lighter repeats later in the season. Growth is medium-tall and healthy — typically four to five feet, though it will reach considerably higher in ideal conditions or if trained against a support. Long stems make it one of the better English roses for cutting. Full sun and well-drained soil enriched with compost. Blooms are heavy and may nod on the stem, which is characteristic rather than a fault. This is a 2–3 year old plant that has already bloomed, so you’re not waiting seasons to see what you’ve got. Growing 9–24″ now with a medium growth rate, it repeats from spring through fall. Plant it where it receives full sun and water frequently — roses reward consistency. Fertilize with rabbit, composted chicken, or horse manure each spring and fall to keep bloom cycles strong. What makes this one worth knowing: it’s self-fertile and genuinely welcomes bees, butterflies, ladybugs, and lacewings, making it a living part of your garden ecosystem rather than just a showpiece. No invasiveness concerns, not toxic to pets or people, and it comes ready to plant with soil included.
