There is something quietly theatrical about a tree peony that stops people mid-step in the garden, and Crimson Pompom — known in Chinese as He Ping Hong Xiu Qiu — is exactly that plant. Each fully double bloom unfolds into a dense, rounded sphere of deep crimson petals nearly 7.5 inches across, with the subtle fragrance that Rockii tree peonies carry so distinctively.
You’ll receive a dormant bareroot plant, two to three years old with two to three branches, shipped at 10–25 inches tall during our fall window (September–November). That timing matters: planting into warm fall soil lets roots anchor quietly all winter, so spring growth arrives strong and bloom production becomes genuinely reliable. By the following season, expect plants around three feet tall.
Grow in partial shade with moderate, even moisture during establishment — never waterlogged, especially in winter. This variety thrives in fertile, well-drained, neutral to slightly alkaline soil across USDA zones 4–9. A light mulch in colder climates is all the extra care it asks for.

🍂 Shipping & planting window
Peonies ship in fall (September–November) when fully dormant and bare root.
Fall planting gives roots a full season to establish in warm soil before winter. Cold stratification triggers strong, healthy spring growth and reliable bloom production. Spring-shipped peonies experience root damage during active growth, transplant shock during their bloom cycle, and often lose an entire growing season.
