Sil Lin is a thornless florist shrub rose from Kenya, grown for an unusual colour that has no real equivalent among garden roses: a soft silver grey shading toward retro grey-purple, cooler and more silvered in mild weather. Blooms are cupped and goblet-shaped, roughly three inches across, held upright on a compact bush of two and a half to four feet. Fragrance is light. Repeat flowering runs across multiple seasons, and both heat tolerance and disease resistance are strong — a combination that comes from its origins in the Kenyan highlands, where the altitude produces the largest heads and the coolest colouring. Full sun and well-drained soil enriched with compost. Completely thornless canes make it practical near paths, seating, and anywhere children or animals pass close by. Cut in bud for the longest vase life.
