There’s something grounding about watching a New Hampshire work a backyard — calm, deliberate, unhurried. This heritage-influenced breed was developed in the American Northeast for practical farm life, and it shows: hens lay a steady supply of rich brown eggs, and their friendly temperament makes them approachable for families and first-time flock keepers alike.
New Hampshires are a common, well-established breed available February through October. Hatchery minimums are 25 chicks January–March, 15 in April, and 6 May–September (Webster City pickup minimum: 6). Birds ship via USPS Priority Mail or Priority Express (typically 2–3 business days), with limited Midwest door-to-door delivery available. Different poultry types ship separately and must each meet their own minimums.
Your brooder should be fully set up before arrival. Report any live-arrival or livability concerns by phone within 48 hours. Changes or cancellations must be made by 12:00 PM Central the Friday before your scheduled delivery. All live-animal sales are final once fulfillment is booked.
A steadfast, productive bird for any serious backyard flock.
