There’s something theatrical about a bloom that earns its name — and Ink Heart (Qing Hua Yan) delivers exactly that. Each enormous 7.5-inch flower unfurls in layered whites and soft lavender, centered with deep, ink-dark markings that look almost painted by hand.

This is a Rockii tree peony, one of the most cold-hardy and long-lived of the species — thriving in USDA zones 4–9 with minimal fuss once established. Your bareroot plant arrives 2–3 years old, 10–25 inches tall with 2–3 branches, and will reach around 3 feet by its first full spring. Plant it in fertile, well-drained soil with a neutral to slightly alkaline pH, in partial shade. Water moderately during establishment, keeping soil evenly moist but never waterlogged — especially in winter. A light layer of mulch protects roots in colder climates.

Bare root tree peonies ship September through November, when dormancy makes transplanting safest and spring rooting strongest.

🍂 Shipping & planting window

Peonies ship in fall (September–November) when fully dormant and bare root.

Fall planting gives roots a full season to establish in warm soil before winter. Cold stratification triggers strong, healthy spring growth and reliable bloom production. Spring-shipped peonies experience root damage during active growth, transplant shock during their bloom cycle, and often lose an entire growing season.

This listing is for 50 plants at $55 per plant. A minimum of 100 LY Nursery tree peony plants is required per order. Shipping is included. Ships directly from the grower farm in China.
