There’s something quietly electric about watching a strawberry poison frog move through its vivarium — that flash of red (or blue, or white, depending on the morph) is one of nature’s most honest signals: beautiful because it means business.
Oophaga pumilio is a thumbnail-sized wonder, typically reaching just under an inch, that thrives in a warm, humid terrarium environment mimicking the lowland rainforests of Central America. They do best with temperatures between 72–80°F, high humidity around 80–90%, and a densely planted vivarium with leaf litter for shelter. These frogs are insectivores, feeding on small springtails and fruit flies (Drosophila) dusted with calcium and vitamins.
Not a beginner pet — strawberry poison dart frogs reward experienced keepers with fascinating parental behavior and striking coloration across dozens of regional morphs. They’re a conversation-starter for serious vivarium hobbyists.
At Phytu, we’re happy to help you think through the right setup before you bring one home.
