Moonrise is a early season hybrid peony carrying fully double blooms in cream. Roots are field-grown in the Netherlands and arrive dormant and bare-root for fall planting.
Root size matters more than anything else on this page. An eye is a growth bud on the crown, and the eye count is what separates a root that flowers in its second season from one that sulks for four. Each root here is a five to eight eye division, a mature heavy root and the largest grade the growers dig. Bigger roots carry more stored energy, establish faster, and give you more stems sooner.
Planting: full sun, well-drained soil, with the eyes set 1 to 2 inches below the soil surface. Planting deeper than that is the most common reason a peony never blooms. Space plants 3 feet apart. Hardy roughly in zones 3 to 8; a mature clump lives for decades and resents being moved.
First season: expect leaves and few or no flowers in year one. Peonies bloom properly from the second or third season onward.
