Frizzle is not a breed, it is a feather gene. Each feather curls outward from the body instead of lying flat, giving these birds their soft, ruffled silhouette. This is a bantam Cochin type: small, round, heavily feathered down the legs, and famously docile.
Four months old and raised entirely free-range — out on grass all day, foraging bugs and berries, with certified organic feed available at all times. No confinement, no medicated starter, no antibiotics.
KEEPING THEM. Frizzled feathering does not shed rain or trap warmth the way normal plumage does, so these birds need a dry, draft-free coop, especially through a Northwest winter. They cannot fly well and are easy for predators to catch, so secure runs matter. Bantam hens lay small cream-tinted eggs, roughly three to four a week.
IF YOU PLAN TO BREED. Do not pair frizzle to frizzle. Doubling the gene produces birds with brittle, broken feathering and real health problems. Frizzle to smooth-feathered is the correct cross, and about half the chicks will frizzle.
STRAIGHT RUN — NOT SEXED. Buyers should be prepared for the possibility of a cockerel. Roosters are prohibited in Bellevue and most surrounding cities, so please confirm your local ordinance before purchase. We will take a cockerel back if you cannot keep him.
LOCAL PICKUP ONLY. Live birds are not shipped. Collection is arranged in person after purchase. Please bring an appropriate carrier.
